Dreamy Shark

A hyper-casual, side-scrolling arcade game where players drift through the clouds as a flying shark, dodging airborne sandwiches. Inspired by Flappy Bird, it introduces a local multiplayer twist, sparking competition and connection between friends.

Note: Dreamy Shark is currently under review for release on iOS

My Roles

Given the small team size and scope, I took on a variety of responsibilities:

  • Programming

  • Project management

  • App Store publishing

  • 2D art upgrades

  • Sound design & implementation

  • UI & level design

Key Challenges

  • Developed a responsive obstacle system that resizes vertically based on screen height.

  • Ran the scrolling background on a Screen Space - Camera canvas to seamlessly layer behind world-space gameplay elements.

  • Locked gameplay to landscape mode to maintain consistency.

  • Excluded iPads from the initial release due to major gameplay balance differences - a separate iPad build is planned.

Ensuring consistent visuals / playability across different mobile aspect ratios.

  • Split the screen in half - one side per player - prioritizing quick reflexes and high difficulty.

  • The limited reaction time became a feature, contrasting with the relaxed pacing of single-player mode.

Designing an accessible and readable two-player experience on a single iPhone screen.

  • Focused heavily on readability, simple interactions, and platform-appropriate visuals.

  • Learned to adhere to Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines through trial, iteration, and testing.

Navigating Apple's strict publishing requirements, particularly around UI standards and accessibility.
